Giving Season Begins!
Again this year Today 4 Tomorrow (T4T) is participating as a partner in Giving Tuesday. This global day of giving takes place on December 1st, 2020, and our Giving Tuesday cause is the Community Ministries of Ottawa. The Ministries are made up of a network of five social service agencies: Centre 454, Cornerstone Housing for Women, Ottawa Pastoral Counselling Centre, St Luke’s Table and The Well.
These Ministries do so much to help people struggling with challenges associated with poverty and mental health issues. Many of the people served by the Community Ministries have experienced trauma and are either under-housed or homeless, or are living every day with hunger and food insecurity as their constant companion.
Keeping this in mind, I am planning to be generous on December 1st. All of our donations, taken together will help make a difference for so many people – especially at the beginning of the winter weather that we experience in this part of the world. People need to be able to go to the warm, safe places that our ministries provide. I am inviting you to be generous too by participating in Giving Tuesday.
Now in its 8th year, Giving Tuesday is a crowdfunding movement for online giving through social media that takes place each year after Black Friday. In the same way that retailers take part in Black Friday, the giving community comes together for Giving Tuesday – hashtag#GivingTuesday. Instead of rampant consumerism, Giving Tuesday facilitates and encourages generosity.
Making a gift to the Community Ministries on December 3rd is as simple as friending our Diocese of Ottawa Facebook page now and liking and sharing our Giving Tuesday Facebook posts. On December 1st, or before, a Facebook post will be sent out that will include a donation button, and there will be posts leading up to Giving Tuesday. Donations may also be made directly through communityministries.ca.
Our goal is to raise critical funds for this innovative and dynamic, community social service network. Please share widely so we can continue to do more good work.
WE HOPE TO RAISE $300.000.00 with the help of our GivingTuesday partners.
The Community Ministries are comprised of five social service agencies that address the underlying causes of poverty affecting vulnerable people. We are seeking ongoing support from the broader community, as well as our current supporters to help us keep our doors open and continue to serve so many people. Help us protect our community members in Ottawa – women, men, families, new Canadians and indigenous peoples living in our community – who are living on the margins, trying daily to make ends meet, and simply get through the day.
Centre 454 a day program in the heart of downtown for homeless men and women, combats poverty through connection and community. It offers daily coaching and support, meals, and supplies to people who often call the streets their home.
Cornerstone Housing for Women is the only charity in Ottawa specific to women that have experienced homelessness. It offers emergency shelter and supportive housing at five locations, and professional and spiritual support for almost two hundred women each day. We offer hope, housing, and healing.
St. Luke’s Table is a day program located in the busy neighbourhood of Centretown. It is an anchor to the many men and women who live on survival wages, in nearby rooming houses, or may be homeless, and need help with food and resources. St. Luke’s offers weekday meals and friendship.
The Well, a busy gathering place for women in the downtown core, living in poverty, offers professional, practical and spiritual support, and well as weekday lunches.
The Ottawa Pastoral Counselling Centre, housed in the Branson Centre, offers professional psychological services and counselling on a sliding scale basis to all who need it.
Together, the Community Ministries, form an innovative grassroots system that actively helps and protects the most vulnerable people in Ottawa. Spread the word about the services they provide to so many women, children and men.
